'Sallet' helmet, 1480-90 Southern Germany. The Sallet is an excellent replica of the original German Sallet displayed at Higgins Armoury Museum. Full headgear like this provided outstanding protection for the head and neck. When the knight needed to look around, the button catch at the jaw allowed him to lift the visor.
